In today's competitive investment world, resource projects need public support and social approval to move forward and get funding. The Northwest Territories (NWT) is financially and politically stable, with strong public and political support for mining.

The 2023-27 mandate of the Government of the Northwest Territories articulates specific support for mining and infrastructure, along with legislative initiatives to advance investor certainty and confidence.

Many of today’s Indigenous leaders worked in the mining and exploration sector. They are broadly supportive of mining because their people continue to be an integral part of the industry. Indigenous governments and businesses today share in every step of development, including the benefits.

The Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act was created in 1998. It aims to share resource royalties with Aboriginal governments and work together on co-management boards. This helps involve the community and gain their support. This helps involve and get support from the community.

In March 2016, a survey was conducted with 500 residents of the NWT. Over 80% of them believed that a strong mining sector was important for the NWT economy. They thought mining was good for the NWT and expressed a desire for mining projects in their area. They thought mining was good for the NWT and wanted more mining projects in their area.
